Interesing developments here at Autoworks.

Big Red is throwing its hat into the ring at Road Atlanta. We have a few slots open and will be announcing a special guest pro driver in the next day.

Big Red has had multiple upgrades and some considerable refurbishment on the heals of its dominating performance last fall at Mid Ohio so all indications point to this being a big event.

Jonathan Shevel will be leading the charge in the pits and garage with the help of the whole crew.

Only a few slots open... Speak now of be left out...

Oh, and Kyle Tilley how much fun is it late braking fools in Big Red at that track?

$1500 for all 3 days all in.

Daniel W. SycksIt's bitter sweet. We had a pretty damn solid outing and hardware at Mid Ohio. We know where the car is and what it needs to be where we want it to be. It's dead fast and it's going to be wildly competitive for its next team. I think we are going to be spending more time helping others win races and less time trying to win our own.

Doug KirchbergLS6 or LS2?

Avatar

Daniel W. SycksLS6 with cam and heads. We will adjust hp to suit buyer and intended use. It was around 470 when we got it and we raced it at around 350. If a skilled driver is going to be sprint racing or DEing it, we will turn it back up to 11. That plus the other modifications and aero we have added should make for a pretty wild ride on sticky tires.

Avatar

Doug KirchbergThe ls6 was around 405 hp & about the same for tq stock. 470 is pretty big for a cam and some head work. LS6 heads sound very spendy. Why & how did you race it at only 350?

Avatar

Daniel W. SycksWe hurt the ls6 in testing and were not fully sure as to why at first. As such we went 5.3 with cam and a few other bits. The 476 (I think it was) was also huge headers, dry sump oil system, fast intake and GM motorsports proprietary ecu. I don't regret racing at lower hp but am happy that we got the car to work as well as we did. We have a buyer who is interested in Michigan who would like to run sprint races. This is a decent fit for the car and it would be close enough that we could help continue its development. I would see that as a win win.

So this should not really come as a surprise but... Big Red is at it again. Strong driving and the cars indomitable will to work have us pushing for top 5 overall from Class 3.

We Sébastien David went 2 hours to start the race in hopes of catching a double yellow that never came.

Luckily Nick Contessa was out second and a double yellow popped after many made their second stop and inside our window to pit. We were able to get in and out and steal a lap on the Blue By You Mustang who we are dualing for Class 3 lead with.

Jonathan Shevel (Ricky Bobby) is currently in the car with Eric Pennington on deck.

Stay tuned because we are hanging tough and can hopefully stay at the pointy end of the stick.

Daniel W. SycksWe are pretty good at raiding OEM parts bins to find stuff we need. Raid the Corvette and newer CTS-V chassis and take the biggest best parts available while cutting as much weight as possible. This gives us literally twice the pad volume as the system that was on the car when it raced and won in Koni Challenge. The rigors of endurance racing are real.

Alex RubensteinI expect those rotots to be bronze by end of next weekend.

Doug KirchbergIt's the calipers that turn bronze under really hard use, not the rotors. As me how I know.

Found it!

With almost an hour left in the race Sunday, Nick Contessa called in saying that he lost power and the car was acting odd.

We feared the diff was dying so we cut pace by 8 seconds a lap and protected position.

Then we heard a miss as the car went past the pits on the front straight. Panic set in and we held out hope that the car would hold on.

We got a yellow flag, let the car rest then the power came back and the miss went away. We scratched our heads and limped. Still fast enough that Scott Barton thought we were racing (tease poke) but the goal was to not blow up.

And here it is. We lost a coil.

Thank goodness that's all it is. Big Red is a little maintenance away from being ready to race.

The car is painfully durable and has responded to almost every adjustment and evolution with added magnificence.

I am proud to be associated with this brute as it inches ever closer to legend status.

Daniel W. SycksAND... The diff was full and the fluid was clean. Zero signs of problems or wear.

Evan HornerOk so no more car development beyond leaks and wheels. Go develop your team. :-)

Daniel W. SycksWill likely go back to the other tires as they protect the wheels and cost about half as much.

Scott BartonIt was very noticeable it was down on power as it wasn't pulling away from my like it should. Still quick with 5 cyl though! :)

Troy TruglioReally? How does that happen?

Scott BartonThese things fail a lot. Never seen exploded, but seen many many older used packs go bad quick under racing conditions. Especially if they got wet.

Evan HornerCould it have been related somehow (effect of more likely than cause) from our jettisoning the ignition/ecu-related relays during my 2nd stint?

Both Big Red and The UFO have been accepted to the Lemons 10th Anniversary race at Gingerman Raceway.

Its quite an honor to be able to join in a celebration of the birth of affordable street tire endurance racing. To get 2 cars in is quite a plum.

We have a few drivers lined up but have seats at reasonable prices for those interested. This will be more low key and laid back.

We will also be trying out some new organizational stuff in hopes of improving overall experience and efficiency.

Get in touch if you want to join us.
